How can I limit content that is saved to the C drive? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have just installed SteadyState, and so far it is working great. However, when we hold public tutorials on Microsoft applications sometimes it is necessary to temporarily save documents, spreadsheets, and databases to the desktop or MyDocuments. Unfortunately, preventing access to the C drive prevents these temporary files from working. We feel, at this point, it would be unreasonable to have each person bring their own USB or CD to the tutorial in order just to open a database.

Is there any way to allow certain files, documents, etc. that can be saved to the C drive while still keeping it locked up?

  • Hi, thanks for the post. In the current version of Windows SteadyState, we can only enable or disable the restriction and we cannot configure to allow saving certain files. If you want to save some files temporarily, you can save it on non-system partition. You can also enable Windows Disk Protection so that those users can temporarily save files on the computer and discard them after restarting the computer.
