Cannot Open PDF in Adobe Reader

Question
-
I have Windows 7, 64 bit. I have downloaded Adobe Reader 9.1. When I try to download a pdf file, it opens in my notepad & is just a bunch of letters & numbers that don't make sense. I have uninstalled the reader & downloaded again with the anti-virus turned off. Still the same problem. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.Wednesday, January 5, 2011 5:06 PM

Please install the Adobe Reader X. This is the most recent version.

See Andre Ziegler's reply, but let me add the following:
In my view, the free Foxit Reader is a better choice than Adobe
Reader. I recommend that you at least try it, and decide for yourself
which you think is better. You can get it at

Ken, do newer versions work better with Firefox? Older Foxit versions had issue when viewing PDFs in the browser. That's why I switched to an unofficial lite version of Reader X which works fine.

Sorry, I don't know. I don't use Firefox. My preferred browser in
Maxthon 2.
