FIM Group Management (tab) RRS feed

  • Question

  • In FIM, in the Navigation Bar, we have the Security Groups section where Users can view their membership also request to join a group. I want to be able to create a tab in the User view Interface, so when we go on a user we have the tabs “General, Work Info, contact Info, and I added the Group Membership tab, so users can see what groups they are a member of”. I want to be able to create another tab where users can initiate group requests, so basically have what is in the navigation bar on a tab in user view. Is that possible? Please help.

  • Hi,

It sounds like you need to modify the RCDC view of the User and add a new Grouping (tab) in the XML. Go to Administration, Resource Control Display Configurations, and click on the Configuration for User Viewing, and click on Export configuration. Save the file and make a backup. Then edit the file and create a new grouping -- you can look at the XML in an XML editor and figure out the schema.

  • I should've mentioned, I followed these directions on how to create the "Group Membership" tab: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/19615.fim-2010-r2-how-to-manage-group-membership-from-the-user-ui.aspx

However, when I try to add/or remove any user, it doesn't let me.

  • Permissions are handled by MPRs, so check those first and make sure you are in the SET(s) referenced in the MPRs. Otherwise, you will need to provide the error message you are receiving.

  • These are the errors I get, but owner is set.

  • The error message suggests the Displayed Owner is not set. There are two ownership attributes in the Portal: owner and displayed owner.

  • Displayed owner is set though. Also I want this process to be an authorization process, so when I add a user to a group, I want a request to kick off so both the owner and group owner have to approve the request. I want to still follow the article: "how-to-manage-group-membership-from-the-user-ui" I posted earlier.
