Unable to see flash drive in guest user account RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have 6 laptops with SteadyState installed on them and we rent them out. Whenever you insert a flash drive or a CD with a powerpoint presentation on it, the client is unable to see it in the my computer area. This is not good for renting them out specifically for presentations. Is there any way to modify that so it will work?

  • Hi,

It seems that this is a Windows XP system issue. Let's try to find the cause first. If we finally proved that the issue is not related to Windows SteadyState, it is better that you post a new thread in our Windows XP forum.

When the issue occurs, is the flash drive or CD cannot be seen, or the files in them cannot be viewed? Does the issue occurs when you insert a flash drive or CD with other data rather than PowerPoint presentation on it?

I suggest that you create a new user profile with SteadyState, and make sure that all settings are default. Then, log on with the new account and check if the issue persists.

If the issue still occurs, the root cause should not relate to Windows SteadyState, it may be a system issue. Please post a new thread in the following forum.

However, if the issue persists in the new account, please find and uncheck the option "Prevent Auto Play on CD, DVD and USB drives" from User settings/Windows Restrictions.
