How to create a Virtual Server Environment on the one PC. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all, I am very new to creating a virtual environment and wanting to learn more. I have server 2008 R2, Server 2003, Windows XP mode and Vista installed on the one machine all running virtually.

I want to be able to setup Group Policy and SCCM in both the server 2003 and server 2008 R2 environments.

If I can I would like to be able to deploy software in either of the server environments either via GP or SCCM and check the results on the XP and the Vista virtual machines.

I hope this all makes sense.

Thankyou in advance for any help contributed.

  • the first thing you will need a robust PC and a vm program that support 64bit VMs.  If you want to use Microsoft products, the only option is Hyper-V.  Otherwise you'd need to use a 3rd party VM solution.

After that you'd just install the OSes in your VMs.  There's not much difference in configuring them virtually or physically.  You'd follow the same steps to deploy via GP or SCCM from a virtual machine or physical machine.
