Win 10 2017 Cumulative Update KB4013429 Failed to Install

    Question

  • I am current with all updates for Win 10.  I always get the following error ever time MS sends updates.

Cumulative Update KB4013429 Failed to Install with Error

It appears this issue has been going on for some time.  I see other people are having the same problem.  I would think MS would have a solution for this by now.   Since I am not a technical person I just need to know how this can be fixed with detail instructions.

  • Hi ,

Windows 10 version 1703 is already released, known as Creator Update. It is the last version of Windows 10 up to now. You can download Windows 10 version 1703 ISO from Microsoft. Then perform an in-place upgrade repair to refresh the machine. Refreshing the machine won`t affect the personal files.  It allows you to keep all your files, settings and apps. No product key is required. Activation is automatic. Boot from a Windows 10 version 1703 ISO, choose "Upgrade" install.
Windows 10 Creators Update now available

  • Hi ,

For Windows update issue, here are some general solutions you can try at least.
1.To troubleshoot whether it is caused by 3rd party applications and services, we could try to install update in clean boot environment to have a test.
      To perform a clean boot

2.Try to clear the update cache and repeat the windows update process. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to clear the update cache(path: c:\windows\ SoftwareDistribution), Windows will create a new SoftwareDistribution folder during Update process.
3.Manually download this update from Microsoft update catalog and install.
       https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx
4.Manually reset Windows Update components should be last step you try .Please click this link tor detailed steps.

  • It did correct some issues but Cumulative Update KB4013429 failed when I tried to install it.  Any other suggestions.

  • I do not understand why I have to go thru so many steps to resolve an issue that MS should fix.  I am not a tech person.  So I am little concerned that if I make mistake I will really cause problems.  All other updates from Microsoft install with no issues except Cumulative Update KB4013429.  What does this Cumulative Update KB4013429 do?   Is it something critical or something I can ignore

    Any other suggestions.

  • Hi ,

Have you tried all of my suggestions?
Windows update may fail due to many reasons, reset Windows update components will correct many of them.

    >>What does this Cumulative Update KB4013429 do?
This update includes quality improvements. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. You can check the following link for detailed information.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4013429/windows-10-update-kb4013429
In fact, KB4013429 is not the last build, the last build is KB4015217 (OS Build 14393.1066 and 14393.1083). It will replace previously update KB4013429. You could install KB4015217 to have a try.

  • Cumulative update for Win 10 version 1607 64 based systems KB4015217 failed Error 0x80246010

This KB and previous KBs have has been failing ever time I get updates from MS since October 2016!!!!!!

I see that there are a lot of people on the internet that have this same issue.  Different solutions were given by MS Community and other websites.  It appears non of them fixed this issue.

I see I can reinstall Win 10 but the date is 2015.  Will it work and is it current with MS updates?  I understand I may need to reinstall some apps or should I take my laptop to a local computer store to fix this?

Please advise what needs o be done.
