Backup or Autosave RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I was working on a file on Microsoft Project on my computer. When I tried to save the software crashed and corrupted my file severely that I cannot be opened anymore. Is there any backup somewhere or an autosave file located in my computer that I am not aware of?

    Appreciate the help

  • Hi,

There is indeed a backup feature in MS Project. To use this feature, open or create a project and then click File > Save As. In the lower side of the "Save As" dialog, click the little Tools pick list button and select the "General Options" item. In the "Save Options" dialog, you will see the "Always Create Backup" option. If you select this option, every time you save a project, it will save as second copy as a backup (BAK file) in the same location as your MPP file.

If you don't have it, you're in trouble if you cannot even open the file. Maybe try to copy paste the file and open the copy? You might try to send it over by email if it is not confidential so I can try to recover it.

    Hope this helps,
