How to still force browse to SharePoint 2007 site even the DNS is already pointing to a new server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are updating the DNS of our old SharePoint 2007 Server to point to the migrated SharePoint 2013 server so that when someone browse to old hompage url pointing, the link should re-direct to the new SharePoint 2013 Home page.

Our issue is, we still have one specific site in SharePoint 2007 that was not migrated yet. Is there a way to be configured in SharePoint 2007 Administration so that when a certain site url is accessed, it should not redirect to SharePoint 2013 site?

    I hope this make sense.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rhee

  • Give an example how your sites are setup? There are ways to redirect to destination pages using IIS, Java-script and others depending on your situations.

  • Hi,

Our current setup is we have a web application in SharePoint 2007 that contains different sites, one of which is the homepage that we want to redirect to the new SharePoint 2013 homepage.

For example: From SP 2007 homepage -->  http://sp2007/Site1  to be redirected to new SP2013 homepage --> http://sp2013/newsite1/

We have a redirect rule wherein if a hostname contains 'sp2007', it should redirect to new SP2013 homepage --> http://sp2013/newsite1/

DNS for 'sp2007' will be updated and be pointing to the load balancer which will do the redirection on the load balancer level

*the thing is,  once the DNS is updated, we won't be able to access one of the site that was not yet migrated since http://sp2007  will always redirect to  new SP2013 homepage --> http://sp2013/newsite1/

For example:  We still want to access the old site http://web01/Site1/Claims and all subsites within it.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

  • I suggest using CEWP to redirect those sites which are already migrated. Http redirection, by the way the only supported method' to redirect using IIS works at Web application level and as far as I know there's no filtering to leave out old sites.

There are java scripts to do the task. Hope this helps

  • Thanks for your help Asfaw. When you say redirect using IIS works at Web Application level, is it being done through 'Extending Web Application to Another IIS Web Site' via Central Admin in SP 2007 ? I don't mind redirecting at Web Application level. Just not sure how to do it.

I put a screenshot of the settings that I was planning to do but I'm not sure if this is the right way to do the redirection in IIS.
