Your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer in xp RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I am trying to open lists using Open With Windows Explorer in my Sharepoint site. But I get an error saying "Your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer". Currently I am using Window XP and IE7. I tried the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907306. But still the same error. Is there any other way it can be rectified. Please help.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    Please check this site: http://www.gokanozcifci.be/subsite/blog_config_KB7.html

By default, “Web Client” service is not installed with Windows Server 2008, you need to install “Desktop Experience” from Server Manager > Features

And be sure that the service webclient is running..

    Hope it helps, Gokan

  • Hi Navaneetha,

Did you get this error on another machine? I found some people get this error cause the SSL Certificate associated with the SharePoint Site expired. If you have configured SSL for your site, you can renew the SSL Certificate.

Please also make sure the root site has been created for your web application.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

  • Hi

Desktop experience will work for Windows 2008 server. My OS is XP. This will not work for me. Could you please suggest some other solution.

    Thanks.

  • You can't normally install any SharePoint product on a machine running XP unless you are using a virtual machine. (and then the VM would use a server OS)

If you are using some non-supported fix please say so and in any case say which SP product you are using.

  • Navaneetha,

WebClient service is installed in Windows XP by default. In this case, you need to check if the service is running:

    1. Start > Run > services.msc
    2. Get the Webclient service. If it is stopped, start it. If it is running, try to restart it again

@Mike, Navaneetha meant open a list or library in Windows Explorer view from Windows XP, not going to install SharePoint on a machine running Windows XP. :)

    Thanks,

    > I am trying to open lists using Open With Windows Explorer in my Sharepoint site.

Means to me that he wants to use Windows Explorer Open when on the PC/server that is running SharePoint. [Note his use of the word "in" before "my Sharepoint site"].

Hence the confusion - but I didn't think or say that he was trying to *install* SP!

  • Hi

This process did not help. The issue still persists. Is there any other way the issue can be rectified.

    Thanks
