direct3d fails and no driver installed RRS feed

  • Question

  • when I download a game from say iwin when I try to open it I get message that direct3d failed to initialize. I went to the directx diagnostics I guess it was and see that direct3d and another maybe directdraw anyway are not enabled or even there. I have tried several troubleshooting options. What I am seeing is that there is no driver installed. Then I find there is a generic driver VGA.dll is installed but having confilict issues. Think code 28. One answer  i got was to install a video driver provided by hardware manufacturer. My question where do I find this driver and once installed will I be able to enable direct3d? OR is there another way to fix this. I'm also running windows xp media center edition 2002. And service pack 2 if any of this matters.
