Can't see new cube dimensions in PivotTable Field List (Excel) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Our environment consists of Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL 2008 and MSPS 2010 in a single server farm environment.

I just added two new cube dimensions:

Business Owner_Project for the Project Cube and Skill Type_Resource for the Resource cube.

I rebuilt the analysis cube successfully yet when I open a data connection to the analysis database in Excel (into a PivotTable), I don't see those dimensions in the Field List?

Am I missing a step somewhere or just doing it wrong?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Andre

  • Hi Andre,

If you open up the OLAPPortfolioAnalzser Template (Business Intelligence > Templates > English(United States) > "OLAP Cube Folder" > OLAPPortfolioAnalyzer), when this opens in Excel, do you see the new dimensions there?

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Hi Andre,

Depending on what cubes you have added the dimension to will determine the Template it appears in... If you have only added to the Project Cube, it will be available in the OlapProjectNonTimephased template. Add the dimension to the Task and Assignment cubes as it will appear in other templates such as OlapPortfolioAnalyzer.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Ah, now I'm starting to understand this a bit more...I was wondering how each of these cubes new what dimensions/data to pull.

Another question...is it possible for me to add dimensions from one cube to another?  For example, we use the Timesheet cube for a lot of our own reports and want to have the Business Owner_Project and Skill Type_Resource dimensions available in that cube and I'm not sure how to get it in there...

    Thanks,

    Andre

  • If the dimensions have been added to the cubes (all 4) and they dont appear in a template / ODC file after the cube is built then it will not be possible to use that dimension in that particular cube / template without custom development to either extend the default cubes or create a custom OLAP cube.

I have included the link below as it might be useful for you:
