Not all categories are displayed in the forum category boxes

Just tried to ask a networking question about UAG, but there are no server forums and the networking forum only has a Microsoft radio project as a subcategory. Lots of forums seem to be missing from the selection boxes which is confusing as browsing the forum you want and then asking a question does not put your question into that forum category.
This is using IE10 with all updates applied.- Edited by Olympic Software Friday, August 9, 2013 4:34 AM Update with some relevent info.

I'm pretty sure this has to do with the branding in the URL when creating a new thread. For example, if I go to this URL I see the list you've posted in your screenshot:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/newthread?category=&forum=
However, if I add in .technet. to the URL, I'll see all of the available TechNet forums:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/newthread?category=&forum=
Same method to get the MSDN forums by using the MSDN branding:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/newthread?category=&forum=
EDIT: Now that I think about it, I'm fairly sure that I've seen other threads that are related to this same question and the official response was that this behavior is by design.
Maybe on the Ask a Question screen there should be a selection for the brand, or an option to switch the whole page to a different brand. Or maybe get rid of the branding altogether -- it seems to be more trouble than it is worth, IMHO.
Also, as I have suggested elsewhere, when you select a forum, a description of the forum should be displayed. I am sure this would eliminate a large fraction of postings to the wrong forum.

These branding issues seem to be causing a great deal of confusion. I see many more questions posted to the wrong forum.
