How to do a vlookup during power query procedure RRS feed

  • When I import a data set through power query can I add a column that looksup related information in an existing table? Thanks.

  • It depends if the other table is known in Power Query, so not imported directly in Power Pivot or created with DAX formulas.

    The syntax would be something like (out of my head): 

    NewColumn = Table.AddColumn(PreviousStep, "NewColumn", (Current) => Table.SelectRows(ExistingTable, each [linkingField] = Current[linkingField]))

    This will give you a new column with nested tables that you can expand with the required column(s).
