TN3270 DEVICE-IN-USE error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have a service which act as a 3270 proxy for LUs management with an sql database. From time to time a workstation is not able to obtain a lease with a DEVICE-IN-USE error. We guess it’s related to PCOM sending requests too quickly. This issue is resolved usually with an inact/act of the LU on the host side. Details of the issue is logged in our log database.

We want to automatize it and fix it before a user got the trouble.

Here is what we see with SNA Manager

    DEVICE-IN-USE error

MCGBEM45 has the issue, note that the status is SSCP but the TN3270 Client is unknown (normal status should be 127.0.0.1) like other one's requested but unused and still in SSCP status.

How can I get the list of all LUs with this trouble ?

    I tried with MsSnaStatus_TN3270Session

    strComputer = "."
    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\MicrosoftHIS")
    Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery( _
        "SELECT * FROM MsSnaStatus_TN3270Session ",,48)
    For Each objItem in colItems
        Wscript.Echo "Client: " & objItem.Client & " Name: " & objItem.Name
    Next

Doesn’t work… it list all active LUs but not this one.

MsSnaStatus_Lu3270 doesn't give info about the (missing) client

    -----------------------------------
    MsSnaStatus_Lu3270 instance
    -----------------------------------
    ActiveState: 2
    ConnectionName: GIMCGBEM
    HostAppl:
    Name: MCGBEM45
    Status: 4
    StatusText: SSCP

BTW we are using HIS2010 but we got the issue with all previous versions too

    Thanks for your ideas.

  • Hello Laurent,

Have you already taken some traces with the SNA-Manager and opened a support case @Microsoft in order to get this fixed ?

Otherwise you should do a mixture of WMI Classes :

MsSnaStatus_TN3270Session <<< You don't see the session because it is already broken and/or is in an unknown state

MsSnaStatus_Lu3270 <<< You should see all the sessions (filter by Status and/or ActiveState).

    Best regards,
