Anyone have any luck with SCCM 2012 & Windows Server 2012RC WSUS 4.0? RRS feed

  • Question

  • In prepping for our organizations eventual move to Windows 2012.  I have setup a lab with Windows 2012 RC and SCCM 2012 SP1 CTP.  The install is working fine with the exception of SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER.

Where I get the following message ID again and again: 6600, Component: SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER,  WSUS Configuration Manager failed to configure upstream server settings on WSUS Server "RCSCCM01.contoso.net".

Windows 2012 RC comes with WSUS 4.0...a different beast but was hoping their was interoperability still.  WSUS is located on the same box as my SCCM install is, with all proper rights, thought the product options view in SCCM Updates versus WSUS Update console is different as SCCM does not have the option for Windows 2012 RC while WSUS does.

I successfully synchronized WSUS via its console with Microsoft, so I know thats configured right, maybe SCCM 2012 is not yet ready for Windows 2012?

If anyone has a how to or has played with this at all I'd appreciate any insight.  If I'm too far ahead of the pack I guess I'll just wait until Microsoft catches up with the inter-operability.

    Thanks

  • Currently SCCM 2012 isn't supported on Server 2012 RC http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSiteSystemReq

That's true for the RTM release of CM12, but not the SP CTP. Installing a SUP is supported on Server 2012.

  • I take it so long as its pointed at a WSUS back-end of 3.0? which would have to exist on Windows 2008 R2 right?

  • No, Windows Server Update Services 4.0. What does WCM.log  tell?

  • Torsten,

Can SCCM 2012 be installed on Server 2012?  I am encountering some issues with prerequisites.  I am unable to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 because Windows Server 2012 is blocking the install as incompatible.  So, I added the WSUS role via Server Manager assuming it was a higher version, perhaps 4.0 and would work with SCCM 2012.  However, the prerequisite check still shows WSUS as not installed.  I am encountering errors attempting to perform update synchronization.  Status message state that WSUS 3.0 SP2 is not installed.

    Thanks for your help

  • I am experiencing the same issues mentioned by Kevin. Does anyone have an answer or suggestions of how to configure a WSUS role on Server 2012 SCCM 2012?

  • WSUS 4.0 uses port 8530 as default not port 80 - change it in the CM console and it will work.

  • Not sure if someone might find this useful, but after configuring CM12 SP1 beta on Server 2012, WSUS isn't automatically configured.  This is because WSUS uses port 8530 not port 80 as previous versions, change it in the CM console and it all works.
