App-V 4.6 client for RDS crashes, service wont start anymore

Question

Hi all,
I have the following situation.
We are running App-V 4.6 for RDS on Windows 2008 R2 with Citrix XenApp 6.
In one month , on two different servers the App-V client service crashed and couldnt start anymore.It starts with the following error:
Error: 4604EE8-13F02C0A-00000008, cant connect to App-V management server
When we want to restart the Application Virtualization Client within the Services.msc, we get an error that the service couldnt start due missing DLL's.
The following errors are displayed in the client log when we want to start the service:
[02/17/2011 05:03:56:001 ???? INF] {tid=1134}
App-V filter loaded.
[02/17/2011 05:03:56:016 VSCM INF] {tid=1134}
Starting Virtual Service Control Manager.
[02/17/2011 05:03:56:952 JGSW CRT] {tid=1134}
Initialization of the Application Virtualization file system security failed (status 16D13C0A-0000E016).
[02/17/2011 05:03:57:030 INTF CRT] {tid=1134}
Client core could not be initialized (rc 16D13C0A-0000E016)Even when we reboot the server, the client service wont start anymore.
When i try to reinstall the client, it installs...but at the end of the install process it performs a rollback action. Also some WMI errors apear in the eventlog.
After rebuilding the WMI repository, i am able to install the client, and i can use it again.Anyone has an idea, why the client service on my XenApp server gets corrupted?

Hello,
Usually - once an Antivirus have crashed an App-V client its very common that it requires a reinstallation of the App-V client to have it functional again

Hello,
We have same problem too. I have metioned it on this forum before and we have a open case on Microsoft Turkey. We are trying to solve the problem.
To start app-v service, log off all users on client computer, and try to start it. If there is a logged user, it does not start. I have found this when I was looking this problem.
Look at this.

Hi,
The tip you mentioned doesnt work in our case.
Fore some reason the "Application Virtualization Client" gets completly corrupted at random.
In our situation i really think its directly related with the WMI repository that gets damaged fore some reason.@ znack
Thanks for the tip, but in our case this behaviour also occures when there is no AV installed (Symantec Endpoint Security 11).
Im not able to reproduce this issue, it came up at once when we were already in production for 2 months.Monday, February 28, 2011 3:07 PM -

I had exactly the same issue. Cause was a corrupt WMI store. I received WMI: Not found when going to the dependencies tab of any service. This got me thinking of course about the WMI store.
I stopped the winmgmt service. Renamed the c:\windows\system32\wbem\repository folder. I then rebooted the server and the servioce started again. On a server where i unsitalled the client already and I also experienced the rollback behaviour the installation went ok after the wmi fix.

Pieter

Hi,
is there any permanent fix known for the WMI repository problem?
The stopping WMI service, renaming the folder works for us, but it happens at random on the servers. Somehow it usually happens after a reboot of the server.
