Can I use different NLB modes on the Internal and External interfaces? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
UAG NLB interface appears to only allow the NLB mode to be set for all interfaces to be the same.

On TMG I can set the NLB mode per interface.
I.e. Internal = Multicast IGMP, External = Unicast

Is it possible to configure UAG in the same way?

    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Best practice (and supported) is to keep them the same operating mode I believe...

  • In case you are using UAG DirectAccess as well; Forefront UAG DirectAccess supports NLB only in Unicast mode; multicast modes are not supported.

  • Actually, I believe that is no longer true after UAG SP1. Multicast should now be supported for UAGDA. I think this is another case of TechNet documentation that never got updated :)

I agree with Jason though, you should really keep them the same.

  • Interesting, because I always prefer NLB multicast with IGPM if the switch supports it.
