Lync 2013 mobility configuration for 2 different sites scenario. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

One of my customer has Lync 2 sites named Site A and Site B in the topology. They wanted to configure the setup so that  Lync mobile devices from these sites can connect the appropriate pools on these sites.

On Site A: We configured the following:

    Dialin.domain.com
    Meet.domain.com
    Lyncweb.domain.com
    Lyncdiscover.domain.com

On Site B, we configured the following:

    DialinXX.domain.com
    MeetXX.domain.com

Now the question is what about URLs for lyncweb and lyncdiscover for Site B

We need the mobile device should connect Site A users to the pool in Site A, Site B users to the pool in Site B.

    Questions:

    1. How do we configure Lyncweb and Lyncdiscover URLs for Site B?
    2. What will be the issue if the network is down in Site A – where edge is running = also sip.domian.com is down and service locators also.
    3. Does mobile will connect and work for Site B? Does Meeting will work for Site B?

    Please advise. Many thanks.

Answers

  • Hi SBHV,

Lync mobility uses Reverse proxy to connect.

Lync mobility clients reach Reverse proxy through discovery,

internal DNS record (lyncdiscoverinternal.<internal domain name>)

    external DNS record (lyncdiscover.<sipdomain>)

If you have reverse proxy configured, it will automatically redirect to users home pool.

    1. How do we configure Lyncweb and Lyncdiscover URLs for Site B?

This may not be required and if you have reverse proxy array
    2. What will be the issue if the network is down in Site A – where edge is running = also sip.domian.com is down and service locators also.

If you have more than one servers in reverse proxy arr, then this can be managed while server based outage. If you need site based outage, you need to configure two reverse proxies and make it in load balance
    3. Does mobile will connect and work for Site B? Does Meeting will work for Site B?

    Yes.
