With projectserver 2010(Only 64-bit is available), You can use either 32 bit/64 bit MS project pro 2010 .
MS project pro 2010 64 bit can be helpful if you are working with Very large projects or creating very large master projects. Other than that they are the same. IF you have upgraded the Project Server 2007 to 2010, backwards compatability mode has to do
with MS project Pro 2007 clients connecting to the server and does not relate to 32 vs 64 bit.
