How to control bandwidth on edge server for external users RRS feed

  • Question

  • dear all,

I have some query regarding the bandwidth restriction for external users

    1. How to control the audio/video bandwidth for external users connecting through Edge server?
    2. is it possible to configure network bandwidth policy for Edge server?
    3. is it possible to restrict anonymous / federated  users from accessing video in conference?

    regards,

  • Hi sarma,

We could any A/V bandwidth policies just for external users(also include anonymous and federated user), because the media traffic is traversing to the Internet, which is not managed by Skype for business server 2015,  it just control bandwidth which flows through the enterprise network:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398529(v=ocs.16).aspx

From this link, we could refer to the following party:
“Call admission control is not enforced beyond the limits of the Skype for Business Server 2015 organization. CAC cannot be applied to the media traffic traversing the Internet, which is not managed by Skype for Business Server 2015. CAC checks will be performed on the portion of the call that flows through the enterprise network if the called endpoint belongs to the organization, and the Edge Server has been added to the network configuration, as described in Call admission control deployment: final checklist for Skype for Business Server 2015. If the called endpoint doesn't belong to the organization, such as a federated or PIC user, no bandwidth policy checks are performed and the outgoing call will ignore any CAC restrictions.”

Create bandwidth policy profiles in Skype for Business Server 2015:

3: From Conference policy we can explicitly block either Anonymous users join or a video Join for all alll users , but After allowing Anonymous users and then not allowing them to see the video , I think we cannot be able to do that.

  • You cannot control bandwidth in SFB for external, you may use traffic shaper to limit bandwidth for SFB edge server IPs,which will result A/V quality for the users whenever it crosses the limit.
