Windows Media Player 11

Windows Media Player 11 will not load when selected. Also, I tried to Uninstall this software, but it is not listed in the Control Panel under Programs Uninstall. Also, I tried to download the program from the Windows Website selecting Windows Media Player 11, but I get a message that a newer version in already installed. The program will not download. Any ideas to correct this problem?
