Extremely slow PXE boot RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having problems with a certain model of PCs we just got booting over pxe at one location. They work perfect at other locations we have. The PCs in question are Lenovo M57E (model 9482-CTO). They use a Yukon NIC.

The problem I'm having is they boot EXTREMELY slow to the WDS boot image. It would take hours if I were to let it try to boot. Only thing we have different at other locations is the physical server WDS is installed on. I have the same boot file and WDS setup at all locations.

Has anyone else experienced these slow PXE boots with certain PCs/NICs? If so, any suggestions?

  • You should check if your network switch has portfast enabled on the ports. I had a case when this was the problem.

  • Yes portfast is enabled on our switches all the way back. Really strange problem, it only affects these PC models. All others will boot up in a couple minutes to PXE.

  • After months of having this issue, We finally just moved WDS to a different server, working great now. Suspect the server nic had some issue with the nic card in the 9482s. Be interesting to know what caused it all, but everything is working now.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.
