Upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1 while in audit mode. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise. Enterprise requires a disk / iso for the upgrade, not the store. I am attempting to do the upgrade in Audit mode. Here are some observations i've made trying to upgrade.

    • Users and settings are retained after the upgrade
    • A Windows.old folder is left over after install
    • A User called Default.migrated is visible in the Users folder

Is it advisable to delete any of the folders I listed after the upgrade?

  • Not sure upgrading in audit mode is supported - or why you would really want to do that anyway.

The Windows.old folder will be automatically cleaned up by a scheduled task after a few days.  I'm not sure about the Default.migrated folder; it should be safe to remove it.
