Move DPM Database to New Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are currently running DPM 2010 as an evaluation and i'm very happy with how it has gone.  At the moment i have 32 days remaining of the trial and i'm starting to think about what i need to do for the proper setup.  i do not want to start a fresh with backups, but carry on with what i have on a fully licensced copy of DPM.

Can i restore or simply move the DPM database to the new server and use all the configuration and current restore points without overwriting all of the data?

  • When running SQL database locally on the DPM server, you can just upgrade to the full DPM version.

DPM 2010 full installation will automatically "upgrade" the database.

When running SQL database remotely or want to move the database follow these steps:

  • I'm not sure this works for the move from evaluation to licensed version.

To change SQL instances the process is to backup the DPM database using the tool provided with DPM and then uninstalling and re-installing the entire DPM server.  Specify the alternate SQL instance during re-install and then restore the data.

Good luck!  I'm following these steps now.
