KB2991509 Shuns Windows Server 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is interesting.  Microsoft recently released KB2991509 to fix a serious performance problem in all versions of IE from 7 to 11 that was caused by a bad security update.

While the original security update was released for Windows Server 2003, KB2991509 does not list a Server 2003 download.  I presume this is because Windows Server 2003 is in the "Extended" support phase and this is technically a performance issue.  I think that's a poor interpretation of the support policy.  If you release a defective security update that cripples performance, you should release a fix to all operating systems that received the original defective security update regardless of what phase of support the product is in.

"You break it, you bought it" rules should apply here.

  • Even if you paid for extended support, it doesn't appear that this hotfix is available..
