Exchange 2010 UM and Lync 2010 without PBX RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a requirement to deply Exchange 2010 and Lync 2010 for an organization.

Organization does not want to make any External calls. Internall calls only should happen also using Headphones connected in machines not by telephones. Is this setup require any PBX or IP PBX or VOIP Gateway???

In my point of view, it is possible they can make call and have Voice mails over SIP network.

    any idea please share.

  • Hi

You don't need to deploy Exchange UM in this scenario and you don't need a PBX.  Lync 2010 (and 2013 is already available) allows for presence, IM and voice calling on it's own.

  • Hi, Thanks for your reply. The custome require, when user A is calling to B while B user is (Away/no respond), the A user should convey the message as mail using voice mail.

I guess UM as well as Lync can be deployed. Please share your view.

  • No problem at all.

If you want voicemail then you will need the UM role: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj687983.aspx

  • Hi,

You can install Lync Server 2010 and 2013 and integrate it with Exchange Server UM. You don’t need to install PBX or VOIP gateway since you don’t want to make any external calls. Even you want do external call, you just need deploy PSTN gateway or setup sip trunk to an Internet telephony service provider(ITSP).
