P2V error - Could not enumerate volume with disk number "5" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We are converting a Windows 2008 R2 server with VMC 3.1 and getting error Could not enumerate volume with disk number "5". The server where we installed VMC 3.1 is a Windows 2012 R2 std VM. While we checked the disk signatures found that the server disk (disk 4) and the converted disk (which failed to mount) have same signatures as seen below

    DISKPART> select disk 5
Disk 5 is now the selected disk.
    DISKPART> uniqueid disk
    Disk ID: 0890C423
    DISKPART> select disk 4
Disk 4 is now the selected disk.
    DISKPART> uniqueid disk
    Disk ID: 0890C423

Both disk 4 & 5 are system reserved disk of 100 GB

Found the technet forum discussing similar issue (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/8c73c4d0-fc49-4475-9a09-481f7384fed5/microsoft-virtual-machine-converter-30-throws-cannot-enumerate-disk-error?forum=MVMC), since our server is in production not sure whether we can follow the resolution mentioned there

Please help us to correct this issue

    Thanks in advance

    LMS
