Secondary Site installation Fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am attempting to install my first Secondary Site.

I went into console and went through the "Create Secondary Site" wizard.  My first couple of attempts of installing SQL with the Secondary site failed so I decided to pre-install SQL express so I could verify all the setting (Security, Collation, Memory, etc) before I pushed the secondary site out.

FYI - When I Pushed SQL Express with Secondary Site, the site showed good in the console, but NOTHING (Registry entries, directory structures, IIS Sites, etc) was installed on the actual secondary site server.

    So anyway back on topic...

    • Primary Site Server is Admin on Secondary Site server
    • Secondary Site Server is Admin on Secondary Site server
    • Primary Site Server is SYSADMIN in Secondary Site SQL Express
    • Secondary Site Server is SYSADMIN in Secondary Site SQL Express
    • Administrator (logged in user) is SYSADMIN in Secondary Site SQL Express
    • Administrator (logged in user) is admin on Secondary Site server
    • Secondary Site Server has delegated control to the Active Directory Container
    • BITs and RDC Features Installed
    • IIS installed
    • .Net 4.0 Installed and active
    • Windows Firewall on all domain computers disabled

Here are the details of the error I am getting during the Secondary site deployment process.

  • Hi,

If you manually installed SQL Express you will need to enable TCP/IP protocol and set the correct port for it.

The account you use also needs to have the dbcreator permission. You also need to make sure the secondary site SQL Express is patched to cumulative update 4.

    All info is here:

    Hope this helps.

  • That did it.  The site shows installed completely.  Thanks!!

Perhaps you can help with some other issues I am having with the Secondary Site:

    1. I can not prestage content (Even though console shows DP installed and Prestaged content enabled)   -----  Log states -  Failed to open local registry key software\microsoft\SMS\DP\Identity (80070002) ----- FYI - ...DP\Identity Registry does not exist.
    2. Program files\sms_CCM does not exist (even though console shows MP installed)
    3. Finally, should I be able to open the console for the secondary site, or is all managment of the seconday site through the primary site? (No CAS)

  • Hi,

sorry I have not needed to Use the Prestage content option as the links to all my sites are pretty quick.

All management of the secondary site is performed from the Primary site that's correct.

  • I got an below error while installing Secondary site from Primary. I am installing secondary site on a server which is a active primary site DB server.

"FATAL ERROR: SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER is not running, setup must have failed, bootstrap procedure aborted!"

    ANY SUGGESTION WILL BE APPRECIATED.
