  • Install 7zip, create a 7z file and set the maximum size to 45MB. Now 7zip creates several parts. Upload all those parts, please:

  • Is ZoneAlarm installed?

If so, uninstall ZoneAlarm or apply the following hotfix:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981180/en-us

There is a link at the top of the article to request the hotfix.

If ZoneAlarrm is not installed can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site?

The following link has information on using Windows Live SkyDrive:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65

If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop.

  • Bug Check 0x7F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

0x00000008, or Double Fault, indicates that an exception occurs during a call to the handler for a prior exception. Typically, the two exceptions are handled serially. However, there are several exceptions that cannot be handled serially, and in this situation the processor signals a double fault. There are two common causes of a double fault:

        * A kernel stack overflow. This overflow occurs when a guard page is hit, and the kernel tries to push a trap frame. Because there is no stack left, a stack overflow results, causing the double fault.
        * A hardware problem.

It may caused by ZoneAlarm, if you have it installed, remove it.

The minidumps are not useful for UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP bug checks.

Configure your Windows to create a kernel dump [1] and upload the zipped dump (C:\Windows\memory.dmp) to your SkyDrive [2] and post a link here.

  • Thank you for replying to my post.  I visited the two websites for which you provided links.  Unfortunately, my MEMORY.DMP file is 850mb in size.  I zipped it up, but it is still 200mb+.  Would you recommend that I install the Hotfix that Auggy (above) suggested at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981180/en-us?

Would the people at ZoneAlarm be willing to fix this problem if they are causing it?

  • Yes, I have ZoneAlarm installed.  I visited the link you provided.  How certain are you that this "hotfix" will fix my problem without causing any new problems?

  • I believe the hotfix has a good chance of fixing the problem.

You could uninstall the hotfix via Uninstall a program > View installed updates, if desired.

Also, consider posting your issue on the ZoneAlarm forum, for further input:

  • I am sorry, but I don't understand.  An archive of what?  The memory dump was much larger than 45mb.
