Invalid Application pool 'SharePoint - epm80' associated with website 'EPMSharePoint - 80'. WebSite will still be discovered. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I hope some has a solution for the following problem:

On one of our EPM (IIS / sharepoint) servers (Windows 2008 x64) we get the scom message

Invalid Application pool 'SharePoint - epm80' associated with website 'EPMSharePoint - 80'. WebSite will still be discovered.

But cannot find any clue because the application and system logs doesn't show any error's.

I have tried changing the application pool of the website to the default apppool iisreset and set back to original iisreset won't work.

    Application works fine.

I already made a post on iis.net some one there said maybe this is an false alarm??

  • This message is displayed in the scom console.

On the server the message is only logged in the Operations eventlog.

  • Hard to say - it probably means _something_ - is it in an alert?  does it have knowledge that tells you what causes it?  What MP is creating it?

  • Hi,

It will be appreciated if you provide more information about the error or the whole error message.

From the error, I just suspect this is related to the IIS Management Pack and please try the following:

Windows Server Internet Information Services 7 Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D351BCA8-182B-4223-8C9E-627E184BA02B&displaylang=en

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

  • Ncholas,

The only message i see in the eventlog is the following:

Invalid Application pool 'SharePoint - epm80' associated with website 'EPMSharePoint - 80'. WebSite will still be discovered.
One or more workflows were affected by this.
    Workflow name: Microsoft.Windows.InternetInformationServices.2008.Discover96To100WebSites
    Instance name: IIS Web Server
    Instance ID: ID
    Management group: name

The management pack you refer too is the one which gives the error.
We al ready read the documentation avalible but can't find any clue.

    Kind Regards

  • So what's the application pool associated with the 'EPMSharePoint - 80' site?

  • Any W3SVC errors in the system log?

I suppose you have a few along the lines of: The identity of application pool ‘AppPool’ is invalid. A bit of a longshot, but it could be caused because the user for this apppool is not in the IIS_WPG group.

Anyway, if you have errors like this in the eventlog, than it's definitely more of a sharepoint/iis question than a scom question. SCOM just reports the error.

  • No, no errors in the systemlog.

I have also placed the application pool accounts in the iis_wpg group but doesn't solve the problem.

I already have made a post on the iis.net forum there was said it's maybe a false alert and adviced me to try posting here.

  • are you sure you run the latest mp as there were some updates to support win2k8 sp2 and r2? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D351BCA8-182B-4223-8C9E-627E184BA02B&displaylang=en

  • Yes, we have the latest version installed 6.0.7600.0

  •  Understanding what an error means is not always easy.  Have you compared the application pool settings in IIS manager for this application against app pool settings (and properties) for sites that are NOT creating this message?

Is this IIS related, or are you running a SharePoint farm - which SharePoint version are you using and which MP are you using.

  • I have compared the application pool settings and they are the same.

    It's a sharepoint farm based on wss 3.0 sp2.

But the alert isn't genareted from the sharepoint mp, it's generated from the IIS 7 MP.
