DPM 2012 R2 60 Tb Limit RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

    We have DPM 2012 R2 ver 4.2.1603.0.

Yesterday a warning popped up, when attempting to another HyperV guest, that exceeding the 60 Tb limit could cause problems. I dont understand this as I thought the limit for DPM 2012 R2 is 120 Tb or so.

Can someone explain why I got this error and if there is a fix for it

  • Hi,

I'm not quite sure, but I think the 60 TB is for the recovery point size and the 120 TB limit is the total maximum size for the DPM server. There is no official documentation about DPM 2012, but I found it for DPM 2010 which was 80TB for DPM server and 40 TB for recovery point.

Keep in mind that this is a soft limit or recommended size and this doesn't mean that it won't work.

FYI. DPM 2016 and DPM 1807 with Modern Backup Storage do not have LDM limits. DPM 2016 onwards can go beyond the previous 120 TB limit.
