DNS Registration refresh interval RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a server GPO with Registration refresh interval set to 360 min. All servers are 2012R2

Running rsop.msc on any of the servers shows Registration refresh interval getting set to 360 under DNS Client -> Network -> Admin Templates -> Comp configuration.

When we look for the key DefaultRegistrationRefreshInterval  under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\

    it does not exist.

Do we need to add the key to all of our servers? Servers don't seem to be refreshing their records evey 360 min. They all seem to follow the default 24 hour refresh for static IPs

    Thanks

To specify the registration refresh interval, click Enabled and then enter a value of 1800 or greater. The value that you specify is the number of seconds to use for the registration refresh interval. For example, 1800 seconds is 30 minutes.

If you enable this policy setting, registration refresh interval that you specify will be applied to all network connections used by computers that receive this policy setting.

  • Hi,

Have a nice day! Thanks for your question.

The DefaultRegistrationRefreshInterval registry key path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TcpIp\Parameter was supported in prior to windows server 2003 or XP.

In your windows version, after the setting GPO enabled and applies to clients, this registry key will be created in the new path of the clients:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\DNSClient

You may refer to the following link for detailed information of DNS RegistrationRefreshInterval Key.
