Project Server: configure a custom field that get information from another custom field. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I have the following issue and I don't know...how I could do it

    Scenario:

I created a project custom field name: CustomField and a Look up Table with the same name.

    These as the possible values.

    AAA

    AAA.BBB

    AAA.CCC

    BBB.AAA

    CCC.DDD

I would like to create another custom field (only to see the information in a custom view, and NOT for edition in a PDP) to get the information for the custom field that I created previously.

But the information that it returns....was only the first part (untill the first point) instead to get or receive all the information.  For example:

    AAA
    BBB
    CCC

Or the record that has for each Project but no the other information.

Is this possible to do it via formula?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

    Pedrof.-

  • This formula will give you the results you want:

    IIF(Asc(InStr([CustomField], "."))=48, [CustomField], Left([CustomField], Instr([CustomField], ".") -1))

  • Hi Pedro,

how did you define your formula?

Let's say that your first custom field is called "Dept" (it contains data from lookup) and the second is called "CopyDept" (it is formula type). You need to set this:

    [Dept]

    in your "CopyDept field.

  • Hi Mario,

First of all, thank your for your response, but I am aware about this...

    This is the exact question:

I created a project custom field name: CustomField and a Look up Table with the same name.

    These as the possible values.

    AAA

    AAA.BBB

    AAA.CCC

    BBB.AAA

    CCC.DDD

I would like to create another custom field (only to see the information in a custom view, and NOT for edition in a PDP) to get the information for the custom field that I created previously.

But the information that it returns....was only the first part (untill the first point) instead to get or receive all the information.  For example:

AAA   (not the complete information for excample AAA.CCC)
    BBB
    CCC

Or the record that has for each Project but not all the information.

    Best regards,

  • Cannot be done with out of box tools.  This requires a custom code using the events to rebuild the second table each time the first lookup table is modified.

    cheers!
