  • Aisz,

If you click on the name of the server for which you are trying to build the cube, it will give you more details about the failure. If you can post that, we can try helping..

  • Aisz,

The event logs while useful are not very explanatory in this case. As I mentioned above, please go to PWA > Server Settings > OLAP Database Management, and click the name of the server that you are trying to build cubes for. That will open up the page which will give you the build process , and also any error messages ...

Alternatively you can also look at the ULS logs..

As far as the queue error above, please check if your Project Server Queue Service is started...

  • You need to install the SQL Server AMO from this link on the application server: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=228de03f-3b5a-428a-923f-58a033d316e1&DisplayLang=en

If you already did install this, you need to restart the Project Server Application. Please see a similar post/solution below:

  • hi - ah okay. so SQL Server AMO is not included in the SQL Server 2008 R2 feature pack? i need to install it separately?

i am quite confused with the AMO concept. :) I am already using SQL Server 2008 R2. :)

how will i know if i have already installed the AMO because i'm not the one who setup the server i'm using.

    thanks a lot.

  • You should be able to go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program and find it in the list ( if it is installed).

  • Asiz,

Please check if your cube has completed building ( it takes few mins and the message you saw was the first step)..

.. if it still show failure, try the following:( also give us the error message).

    1. Please restart your Project Application Service (Central Admin >> Manage Service Applications)
    2. Please restart your Project Server Queue Service ( Manage Computer >> Services)

  • hi prasanna - i have restarted all of it but its still not working.

on the OLAP database management , there is no error . the status is just stucked up to "Processing".

and the build status is just like this:

===== Initiating OLAP database build process =====

[4/28/2011 10:32 PM] Cube build request message has been added to the Project Server queue

thanks a lot for the help.

  • Aisz,

Sorry to jump in, but I have a few questions that may assist in working out what your issue is:

    1. Is the queue in fact processing on your server? Verify this by doing a project publish and then in Server Settings > Manage Queue checking to see if it processed?

    2. Are there any other jobs in the queue waiting to be processed?

    3. Have you previously had any other instances of Project Server on your environment that you may have removed, or deleted? The 'Cannot start queue. SSP: 9c8e523b-08d3-412e-b578-031f3f355159 SiteUID: 3e95a4a4-db5a-4d54-9829-dfff903e9ae1 Url: Queue: ProjectQ' message can be caused by instances not being removed cleanly. If not, and you can verify that the SiteUID is in fact that of your current PWA instance, then I would suggest cranking the ULS logging up to verbose and watching what is happening in the ULS logs.
