Not receiving mails from (only) one external domain

    Question

  • Hi,

    I have Exchange server 2016.
Today I saw that we don't receive mails from one external domain (wp.pl).

For example, our client sent to us an email from xxx@wp.pl
We didn't receive this mail, but he got an response message, which contains:

"Hi. This message was created automatically by mail system at ....
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

    <xxx@our.domain>:
    smtp-ip-address does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.7.54 SMTP; Unable to relay recipient in non-accepted
    domain Giving up on smtp-ip-address."

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be going on here? Thank you.

  • Problem resolved. Weird thing, in SMTP receive logs I found that recipient address was changed from contact@domain.com to contact@waws.....cloudapp.net

My domain had CNAME and dns lookup looked like this:

    domain -> site.azurewebsites.com

    site.azurewebsites.com - > waws.....cloudapp.net

    waws.....cloudapp.net - > IP

After changing CNAME to A record everything works fine.

  • That message is not from an Exchange server.  Do you have an SMTP relay or message hygiene server, appliance or cloud service between your Exchange server and Internet senders?
