  • I have an ACER 9410 running Windows Vista and received the following error. Does anyone have a fix?

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen...(etc.)

    Technical Information:

    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0x894B6000, 0x00000008, 0x894B6000, 0x00000000)

    *** volmgr.sys - Address 894B6000 base at 894AA000, DateStamp 00000000

  • Hi, I think it might be a virus. Restart computer and go to safe mode with networking. Download latest updates for your Antivirus Software and then run a virus check. Slan go foill, Paul

  • I cannot even get to safe mode.  It just jumps back to blue screen when I select safe mode, last know good config, etc.  I have tried all the options available.  What do you recommend?
By the way, I recently installed McAfee, a legit copy provided by my company.  I am pretty sure this is causing Vista to halt.  I have also tried reseating the rams, but it didn't help.

  • Hi Pleasehelpmylaptop,

If your laptops harddisk is Sata drive, take it out and bring to a friends computer with Sata connections on motherboard.

Scan for Virus and Spyware. You will also be able to save some data off harddisk to backup device.

Just in case you have no choice but to reinstall Windows.

If you can not do the above go to Hirems Bootcd which includes repair tools and  backup software. Download and Burn to cd.

Restart computer and boot to it.
