  • Hello,

So far we've found the best and fastest way to migrate virtual machines from VMWare to HyperV is the P2V-tool included in SCVMM 2012. It requires a few additional manual steps such as uninstalling VMWare tools, reboot, make sure you still have network connectivity preferably using DHCP, start the P2V which in our case takes about 10-15 minutes for a 30GB machine. By comparison the V2V-tools we've tried so far from Microsoft take about 4 hours for the same machine on the same hardware. After the conversion, reboot, shut down and install VGS and finally bring it back up and reconfigure the networking. All in all this process takes me 15-20 minutes per machine where 10-15 minutes of that is waiting for the copy. Using this method I successfully migrated 9 machines in about 2½ hours.
