some text may disappear or repeat when making PDF or print RRS feed

  • Question

  • When making a pdf from a MS Word (2007) document using Adobe Distiller (Save as pdf), some text may disappear;
    it may be either a whole word or part of a word containing a hyphen (all the letters before the hyphen get lost). Or some text at the end of line may repeats on the next line. This behavior may occurs when the paragraph is "unstable". We professionally work with MS Word 2003 and have not encountered this problem before.

    The document was created in MS Word 2003, and it looks absolutely the same
    if it is opened using MS Word 2007. But when it is printed as pdf, we get the above problem.
    What is the reason for that?
    Attached with this message we send a page fragment of the Word document
    (made through PrintScreen) and also the obtained pdf file with a mark in the place where the letters disappeared.

  • Hi

    Thank you for using Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.

    From your description, Could you print this document as .docx file Type?

    Have you install the last Service Pack of Office 2007 & Adobe program?

    You can refer to this KB article to repair Office 2007 test this issue.

  • Hi

    We have tried different methods of printing, namely:

    1)      into a pdf file, using different software:

    1.1)            in MS Word 2007: Print > Adobe PDF;

    1.2)            in MS Word 2007: Save as PDF;

    1.3)            in FreePDF.

    2)      directly to a printer:

    2.1) HP LaserJet 5200 Series PCL 5 (non-postscript printer);

    2.2) HP LaserJet 1300 PS (postscript printer).

    All the time the result is the same: a word at the end of a 'problem' line repeats itself at the beginning of the next line or some words or part of a word may disappear.

    The same happens even if the file is previously saved as MS Word 2007 document (*.docx).

    We are using MS Office Word 2007 (12.0.6545.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6554.5001) in MS Windows 7 Professional (ver. 6.1, build 7601, SP 1).

    This error occurs on several computers under Windows 7 Rus and Office 2007 Rus and Eng.

    If MS Word 2003 is used instead of MS Word 2007, then we can see differences between the text on screen and the text on paper, but no text disappears or appears.

    It seems to me that this problem occurs mostly when paragraph has several footnotes and is long enough. When printing, MS Word's document is repaginating and at that moment some words in the paragraph 'jumps' on to the next line and we can see the difference between the text on the screen and the text on paper (or pdf). We know this as 'unstable paragraph'.

    You can see a sample http://urss.ru/pub/word-troubles.rar

    01.docx - page 24 (in Russian), the printscreen of the problem fragments and the PDF file of the page 24.

    Let us notice that we are a professional printing company and editorial and cannot admit this kind of errors in our production. So, it is extremely important for us to get your help in finding a solution to this problem.
