Problem with a migration of project server 2007 to project server 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all, i'm having problems with a migration to project server 2010 from 2007. this is my scenario:

    1. One Server with the WFE Role and this server is part of a NLB. In this moment exist just one server into NLB configuration. OS 2008 R2, RAM 48GBytes.
    2. One Server with the Application Server Role. This server isn't into a NLB. OS 2008 R2, RAM 32GBytes.
    3. One database server SQL server 2008 R2, OS 2008 R2, RAM 32GBytes. This server is part of a cluster configuration.

In the project server migration from 2007 to 2010 was used the database attached method. In the project server 2007 application it did have 250 projects, this projects were migrated correctly to project server 2010 application. The user security is ok but i'm having this problem, when a try to open the page details from projects center, this page isn't showing me the project tab, the buttons for edition, save, publishing and calculate in the task tab are disabled. The image about this issues are in this url http://cid-c96706a598799fc4.office.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/ProjectServer. The  project1.png and project2.png images are showing my problem.

When i try to do the same operation into a PWA created in project server 2010 i can't see this issues and i can see other information like "schedule" and "project information" (project3.png image). What might happen in the migration? The migration went wrong? What can i do for solve this issue??

Is very urgent to solve this issue because my client needs modify the project owner and other fields that appear in the project page details site.

    Thanks for you collaboration.

  • Hi Livia,  i have the solution to the problem I had in the pages of details. Should only be run the following powershell script:

    $web = get-spweb http://<servername>/<projectserverinstance>

    $web.allproperties | format-table

    $web.allproperties["PWAURL"] = ""

    $web.update()

Only set the PWAURL property to NULL and ready.

    thans for you collaboration.

  • Hi Andres,

Have you try to open/publish any one of the project using Prjoect Professional? If not, do that and see if that project then able to open correctly in PWA.

    Let me know the results.

  • Hi arojaspa,

Is your server still running in Project Server 2007 compatibility mode?

Have you verified the Enterprise Project Type settings for your default Enterprise Project Type (PWA -> Server Settings -> Enterprise Project Types). And specifically the settings for the Project Detail Pages of the EPT.

Did your Project Server 2007 instance used some of the Project Server 2010 reserved custom field names?

    Regards,
    Hans

  • Hi Hans, thank you for you comment. to repect, yes in this moment the server is still running Project Server 2007 compatibility mode. I was verifying the templates for the page details and the templates are not showing correctly in this environment, but in another pwa environment yes. I tried to export the templates than are working fine to import these in the new environment, but, no working. I don't know what's happened with this new production environment, but is very urgent to resolve this issue. If you needs some log file, please let me know.

  • Hi,

Are you unable to edit the migrated projects in any project detail page? Or do you have the problem only with PDPs including the Project Details web part?

  • Hi Livia, i can't to edit migrated projects and new projects in any project details... i'm having problem using the page details including project details webparts too. i tried importing new page details but this not working. This situation is critical because the PMO they are needing modify the projects owners and other details but they can't to do this operation. In other hands, the quick launch is not presented in the details pages, not showing too.

Please, i'm needing you help about this issue. i don't know what can i do to respect.. if you need take my laptop control to review this issue please let me know or whatever than you need to check this issue.

you can see the project2.png image from http://cid-c96706a598799fc4.office.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/ProjectServer where i'm showing the problem..

    Thanks for you collaboration.

  • Try the following:

Got to "Server Settings", then "Change or Restart Workflows" (under the "Workflow and Project Detail Pages" section).

In the first part of the screen you can assign the projects to an Enterprise Project Type. Check if they are assigned to one. Try to assign one of the migrated project to the Project Type "Basic Project Plan". Then check if it solves the problem for that project.

Did you make a 5 database attach (including the content database of the 2007 system) or a 4 database attach (only the 4 Project Server databases)? Do you still have the logs of the migration?

  • Hi Livia.. i tried use your suggestion but not works. The migration were 5 databases including content database. I uploaded the logs files to the url  http://cid-c96706a598799fc4.office.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/ProjectServer. The files names are: BOGSSP097TIC002.zip is the SharePoint log file of the application server; BOGSSP097TIC003.zip is the SharePoint log file of the WFE server.

Pls, check the other files (*.png) and you will see the differences between the migrated instance and a new instance. The migrated instance it is the problem.

    thanks..

  • Hi Livia, on the server i have installed the spanish language pack. the original language pack is english. could be a problem that?? the pwa instance was created using en-us language pack. i found a application event log that says "Failed to get language information for Project Server (http://server/PWA)" and using the ulsviewer i found this message "No webtemp*.xml files found for language 1033 and product version 3." and this "No webtemp*.xml files found for language 1033 and product version 2.". This issue is very stranger. I'm going to download the SharePoint Foundation spanish language pack and i'm going to install it on server.

This server have the accumulatives updates for SharePoint. the SharePoint farm version is "Configuration database version: 14.0.5114.5000

When i'm going to try to use the Schedule.aspx into page details pages, the following error is showed:

    Project Details

The webpart cannot be displayed in this context.

    the projectdetails.aspx:

    Project Fields

This Web Part was unable to load.

Information that may be useful in solving this problem was written to the Unified Logging Service (ULS) log on the Project Server with the following ID:

    09026d5f-f434-4014-8754-ecc614001bf9

For more information, contact your Project Server administrator.

  • Hi,

well, I've seen all sorts of strange things happen because of language incompatibility. However the error you have here says "language 1033", which is english-us. So the missing xml isn't a problem with the spanish language pack. The original 2007 databases were english too, I suppose?

Try to do the provisioning once more using a 4 database attach (without the content DB) on a test pwa instance. Something might be wrong with the migrated content DB.

For the ULS Logs, please tell me when you did the migration (date and, if possible, time), otherwise I'm going to have to look through all of the logs to find out ;-)

  • Hi Livia, i don't think that problem is the language. The original instance language of project server 2007 is english. the migration was between march 04th and march 05th 2010. i'm going to create another instance only with the four databases from PS2007 and get the feedback. When i made a review of the uls files it show me than the process is asking for the projectserver12 dll files into the assembly folder, that's is normal? why the project server 2010 is asking for this dll files? this only happend when i try to get the project information of some project after give a click on the some project in project center list.
