Multiple AD dns hosting same reverse zone RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

We have two active directory domains each with their own integrated DNS. The first ad domain dns hosts a reverse zone of 172.30.0.0/16 and the second ad domain dns servers host a /24 within the 172.30.0.0/16 range. The /24 is not in use where within in the 172.30.0.0/16 zone of the first ad domain dns.

I would like to get conditional forwarders working for the PTR between the different AD domains. Is their a way to configure the name servers that host the 172.30.0.0/16 to send requests for a /24 within the range to the other DNS server? What is the best way to get this working without rebuilding the zone into smaller zones on the first domain that hosts the 172.30.0.0/16?

    Thanks

    James

  • Hi James, I suggest you create a site for both the /16 and the /24 ranges.  You can then do site replication without having to forward.
