deleting sppmetadatacache, catalog, mediaID files RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a windows 7 OS, my D drive is running out of space but C drive is having more than half space free. I have file folders like  SPPmetadatacache, catalog & mediaID in the D drive. Can i delete these folders to restore D drive space?

  • I think those files are associated with Windows Backup.  Have you been backing up files from drive C: to drive D:?

I wouldn't delete them directly, but rather bring up the Windows Control Panel Backup and Restore facility and go through the Manage space link.  It will offer you the ability to view what backups exist and manage the space directly.

Also, consider using the Windows Disk Cleanup utility (click Start and type disk cleanup in the search box).  It may suggest some things you haven't thought of.
