MDT 2013 Update 2 + Surface Deployment Accelerator RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have setup a deployment for Surface Pro 4's using the Surface Deployment Accelerator but have run into a bit of a snag. The boot file gets added to WDS and I can PXE boot the device, but that is where it ends. Once it shows the nice Surface background the machine will sit there for a minute and then just restart and do the whole PXE boot again. I have checked permissions on the share, I have also checked the log files in C:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS but there are no errors in them. Not sure of where else I can check.....

  • PXE is no fun, and there are a ton of things that can go wong

    * Are you kicking off PXE boot on the Surface device correctly? are you getting an IP address and a response from the server?

    * Have you verified PXE works on other client machines?

    * Have you verified that the Server is responding to clients? Check the WDS log.

  • Hi Keith,

PXE works, its gets to the MDT background, you can see the cursor flicker as if processing some scripts in the background and then it just restarts. I have even set the bootstrap.ini file to display the BDDWelcome, but alas, I just get the MDT default background then reboot..... I am not that clued up with scripting so would not know where to start on the scripts that get created when using the Surface Accelerator.

  • If/When WinPE ever reboots on it's own, press F8 when it starts for the first time, and that will prevent the scripts from rebooting later on, we can look at the bdd.log to see what failed.
