Windows Defender corrupted

    Question

  • I keep getting the message "file contained a virus and was deleted" when trying to download or open attachments.  This only affects my laptop, not our main computer.

There is also an X in my message flag that says "potentially harmful software was detected" but it won't let me open any action on it.  My Panda scans can’t find anything.

I took my laptop to Microcenter.  The guy said I have a "rootkit virus" and they need to keep my computer and completely start over.

Then I called Panda.   He said Windows Defender is corrupted and I need a tech to come out.  He said it is not a Root Virus.

I tried to open Defender but it said it was unable to start correctly.
