SBS 2008 Roles not displaying RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a SBS 2008 X64 machine that suddenly decided to stop playing nice. After a long night of research, I have come to the realization that the issue is a set of missing files. The report from the CheckSUR log is as follows. I have seen similar threads answered by links to the necessary downloads. Might I be given the same assistance?

    Thanks.

Note: Refer to the “Options for obtaining files” section to get the files required.

For detailed steps, refer to the following steps:

     1. Download the KB from Microsoft Download Center. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946928/en-us This link is for x64 version 7.4.7600.226 of the Windows Update Agent

     2. Expand the package.

Assuming you downloaded the package to the c:\targetDir directory and you want to expand the package to c:\targetDir, for example, run the following command:

    C:\TargetDir\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe /x

      3. Expand the cab files to the same location.

    expand C:\targetDir\WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel.cab /f:* c:\targetDir

All the files will be located in the above directory as only payload files are located in specific subdirectories.

Occasionally, the required file may be a root package. Check the above link for detailed instructions.

Then, move to the following steps to fix the error:

     4. Copy the files to %Windir%\Temp\CheckSUR directory of the corrupted computer following the subdirectory format as follows:

All files of type *.mum and *.cat should be placed in the %windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\servicing\packages directory

All files of type *.manifest should be placed in the %windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\manifests\ directory

    For Example:

    copy C:\targetDir\wuclient-selfupdate-core-corecomp~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.4.7600.226.mum to %Windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\servicing\packages\
    copy C:\targetDir\wuclient-selfupdate-core-corecomp~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.4.7600.226.cat to %Windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\servicing\packages\

    6. Repeat for other files.

    For

    WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.4.7600.226.mum
    WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.4.7600.226.cat

    rename update.cat to WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.4.7600.226.cat
    rename update.mum to WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.4.7600.226.mum

    and copy to %Windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\servicing\packages\

    7. Rerun the System Update Readiness tool.

  • Thanks for the detailed response! I was able to follow your instructions completely, except for one problem. Files #2 & #6 from my report above were not included in the expanded .cab files! A search for the word "TopLevel" only turned up the already-expanded .cab files. All the other files were there, and were fixed with another run of the SUR tool. Any idea where I might locate fresh, non-corupted copies of these two files? I still have no Roles or Features available in my Server Manager.

    Here's the newest CheckSUR log:
