Dual Boot Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a new computer running vista and need to dual boot with XP. I went through the vista drive management and made a new partition to install the XP on.  All went well.  I booted up on the XP disc to install choose the right partiton and the first part of the install went fine.

Now the problem.  Went the computer went to reboot from the first part of the XP install, i either get the press a button to boot from the cd and everything starts over or if i dont press a button to boot from the cd i the "error loading operating system" and everything locks up.

I have the recovery disc and was able to get vista back, but i really need to ge the XP running also

    any thought??

First please remember Windows Vista will not start after a dual-boot Windows XP is installed. But we can refer to the following article to make Windows Vista work again.

As I know, some kinds of computers such as ASUS only support Vista now and we cannot install XP on them. Therefore, I suggest you to contact your computer manufacturer first to confirm if your computer supports XP.

If it supports XP, please boot from the XP installation disk, format the partition where you would like to install XP and then install XP according to the directions. After XP is installed, you will be able to enter XP but not Vista. Try the method below to rescue your Vista:
