RRAS Clients show as 'connected' when disconnecting from a wireless network

    Question

  • We have a problem where Always On VPN/RRAS Clients show as 'connected' after the user has disconnected from the wireless network. This is causing lots of issues where the VPN does not reconnect as it thinks it's still connected.

    Our configuration is as follows;

    - RRAS Windows 2016 Server in DMZ

    - Laptops running Windows 10, majority 1607 and some 1703.

    - IKEv2 Protocol uses computer certificate for authentication

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

    That is normal VPN behaviour. When the client disconnects from the network, the VPN connection is broken, although it seems to be connected.What we can do is disconnect the VPN connection and reconnect after the network is restored.

    Best regards,

  • Ok thanks, I presumed that the Always On VPN would be able to automatically re-establish it's connection once the wireless network connection had been re-established. I will just have to make it clear to users that they need to manually click disconnect on the VPN.
