Would you please tell us if the issue happen to external users ?

If so, please try to check if the federation set up correctly.

Please telnet port 5061, make sure it is open.

  • This is the default message the user will get if IM failed.

First you should check that the user can see the presence of the other user correct.

If the presence show presence unknown, the user may have mistype the sip address of the other user.

  • The user has been talking with other user for month. This is really strange. The presence was unknown, but both users were online.

  • Ok, you should download the SFB debugging tools an use the snooper.exe to analyze the trace from the client to see which sip error message you will get.

  • For me, 9/10 times this is a cache issue.  Delete signin info clears these up.
