Vista OEM/Retail upgrade key question RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Home Premium OEM. If I go out to a store and buy the RETAIL version of Ultimate Upgrade, will my OEM key become a RETAIL key? Or will it just be a Ultimate OEM key?

I need a retail Ultimate, not OEM since I have a 32 bit OS and am trying to go to a 64 bit OS. The OEM disk only contains the 32 bit software and the alternate media is unavailable to me since I have an OEM liscense.
I'm faced with Ultimate OEM purchase for 189 on zipzoomfly or I can go to the store and buy Ultimate Retail Upgrade for 200 at best buy. But of course, if the key upgrades to a RETAIL key when you buy the RETAIL upgrade box, it's better since then I can take it with me the next computer I build.

  • Too much money. 330 bucks for an operating system for a lowly geek like me is too much! lol.
If I was faced with a full retail version I'd get the Home Premium.

Over the night, another forum has gotten me the answer I needed.

Thank you for the help though.

  • With your stated objectives in mind, I would recommended that you purchase a Full Retail Version of Windows Vista Ultimate.
