Normal transfer time of Windows Easy Transfer on Windows 8? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am wondering any expert on Windows Easy Transfer offer some sense about the normal transfer time because I need to decide whether I should stop the transfer process that seems to be taking too long.

I am using an external hard drive to transfer files and settings from a Windows 7 PC to a Windows 8 PC.  It took about 5 hours to create the transfer file (152GB) from the Windows 7 PC.  On the new Windows 8 PC, Windows Easy Transfer finished transferring a user account (2.8GB) in a few minutes, and then it started transferring Shared Items.  The displayed transfer time was 20 hours initially. One hour later, it is 2 days, 6 hours.  It has been gradually increasing.

I am wondering if anything is wrong, and I should stop the process.

Any tip will be greatly appreciated.

  • Update:

The transfer  finished in about 1.5 hours.

The displayed transfer time started decreasing soon after my original post.

I think the lesson here is the displayed time should not be taken seriously.  It would be desirable if WET could display exactly what is does at any moment so the user could assess the progress by himself.
