Outlook 2016 Searching Shared Contacts Index Does Not Include Name in Partial Searches? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a client who has Shared Contacts in a Public Folder. The Shared Contacts folder has been added to their Favorites in Outlook 2016.

When selecting the Shared Contacts folder and entering text into the search box, Outlook seems to ignore the name fields.

For example we have a shared contact called "Stephen Jones", so we enter "ste" in the search box and the contact "stephen" does not appear in the result. We do get other results that include "ste", but from the address field and the lines, not name.

Can anyone assist with a solution. We have been trough the indexing options,  rebuilding indexes and all. Search works fine on local contacts but not Shared Contacts from Public Folders.

It used to work. I am thinking that a recent software update has removed this feature

    Thanks.

  • Hi Julian,

Does this problem only affect a particular user or it occurs to all users in your environment?

By this, do you mean the issue started since a recent Office update? If this is the case, please collect the detailed version information of Office and Office so that we can do further research on this.

If you are running Office 365, it is also suggested to test on one machine by reverting to a previous version of Office to see if the issue can disappear.

Any findings, feel free to post back.

    Yuki Sun
